Rockets!

Success! NASA launched the space shuttle Atlantis Monday and today the European Space Agency launched an Ariane 5 rocket. These launches have particular significance for astronomers because three observatories were at stake. During this mission the crew of the shuttle Atlantis will fix and install new parts on the aging Hubble telescope. And the ESA lofted two new satellites, Hershel and Planck.
